Pre-Week 1 NFL Offense Rankings

For example, a GE number of +1 means that a team's offense, for the most part, is above average compared to the rest of the league and is worthy of top 5 or top 10 consideration. A GE number of +2 or close to +2 would indicate a record breaking offense. The 2013 Denver Broncos which shattered all sorts of records had a GE a number of 2.019. Going a few years back, the 2007 New England Patriots had an offensive GE number of 2.537 and that offense put up video game like numbers.

An offensive GE number of 0 would indicate that a team's offense is pretty much average. GE numbers for offenses that are at -1 of course would be at the bottom of the barrel. The 49ers and Rams were such teams and we know how lackluster those offenses were. If a team has an offensive GE number of -2, will may God help them! The 2006 Oakland Raiders had an offensive GE number of -2.341, the year before they drafted JaMarcus Russell. Needless to say, their GE number didn't improve much the next three years! The San Diego Chargers with Ryan Leaf, the Houston Texans first year, and the 49ers during the Mike Nolan years all flirted with offensive GE numbers close to -2.

OK, here are the pre-Week 1 rankings for offensive GE numbers.

Even with Tom Brady out for the first 4 games, expect New England to have a dominant offense. Bill Belichick continues to be the resident genius of the NFL. Green Bay is not far behind and as expected, Denver, Los Angeles, and San Francisco will be at the bottom of NFL offenses.
