Yay or Nay Week 11
Yay or Nay Week 11:
I made some nice bold picks last week, like Carson Palmer is going to have a bad game against the Niners. I also made some pretty bad bold picks last week: Le’Veon Bell isn’t going to have a good game. My everlasting battle with Russel Wilson is still going on and I just don’t know what to do with him. But anyways, let’s get right into it: Yay or Nay Week 11 as always use at your own discretion as this article is not reinforced by normal stats, mostly by the eye test and good/bad feelings.
QB’s I say Yay to Week 11:
Kirk Cousins, Washington Redskins: I usually don’t like to have guys on the same list on back to back weeks but I think Cousins is officially a must start quarterback. People only remember the Pittsburg game on Monday night football but he has been playing very well lately. Not only has he been playing well, it really looks like they have a nice running game to complement the passing game once again. Wait there’s more, they’re playing against a Packers defense that was three points away from giving up a fifty-burger to the Titans. I think Cousins will be able to exploit the holes in that Green Bay defense along with the help of their emerging running game.
Derek Carr, Oakland Raiders: Carr is a premiere quarterback in the NFL and the Texans aren’t putting any pressure on opposing quarterbacks. If you give Carr time he will find an open receiver. Another thing that I like about Carr’s game this week is that it is in El Estadio Azteca in Mexico. I watch lots of soccer, the reason that opposing soccer teams find it difficult to play in El Azteca is because of the altitude. Being 7,400 feet above sea level creates a hostile environment for any team that goes in there without being adjusted to the altitude. I think that as the game goes on the Houston defense will have trouble catching its breath.
Marcus Mariota, Tennessee Titans: Marcus Mariota is playing the Colts defense, he’s clicking, he has a great run game. What more does he want to be successful? Here’s a stat for you: in Mariota’s NFL career, he has never thrown an interception in the red zone. He has learned to tone down the turnovers and begin producing. I think that a major credit to his success should go to DeMarco Murray because Murray’s success running the football has set up the pass game beautifully. Mariota has taken advantage of his favorable schedule dating back to Week 5 against Miami where he posted 30 points. Since then he has only had two games below 20 points. His schedule doesn’t look to get any harder in the coming future so expect him to continue to stay hot.
QB’s I say Nay to Week 11:
Dak Prescott, Dallas Cowboys: The Baltimore Ravens’ Defense has quietly been very good this year. They have only allowed two quarterbacks to reach twenty or more fantasy points. They have held opposing quarterbacks to fifteen points or less six times. I think that Dak is a very good-consistent quarterback but the Cowboys will run the ball a lot more than they will pass it.
Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers: Of course you’re starting him. I’m just here to tell you that he isn’t going to be a top 5 quarterback this week because the Redskins have actually not played defense terribly. The Redskins defense have only given 1 quarterback 20+ fantasy points. That was Week 1 against Ben Roethlisberger. I’m not saying it’s a no-fly zone in Washington but it sure isn’t fly as much as you want. The way to beat Washington is by running the football so with James Starks back and them recently signing Christine Michael I think they will try to establish and maintain the running game.
Carson Wentz, Philadelphia Eagles: He is playing against Seattle in Seattle and has met the rookie wall. He’s only scored two touchdowns over the past five weeks. I think it’s all downhill for him for the rest of this season.
RB’s I say Yay to Week 11:
Thomas Rawls, Seattle Seahawks: I’m worried about this pick because he is just coming back from an extensive injury. The Seahawks cut Christine Michael which makes me think that Rawls is nearly 100% ready to get back onto the field. CJ Prosise has earned a role in the Seattle backfield as the pass catching back but Rawls has the better chance to score touchdowns. Rawls showed last year that he could run very well and is capable of taking 20+ carries in one game.
Robert Kelley, Washington Redskins: His name is Fat Rob. That’s kind of awesome. It’s primetime against a stumbling Packers team. He has workload and opportunity. The Washington coaches have made it clear they are done with Matt Jones by making him a healthy scratch last week. Start Kelley.
LeGarrette Blount, New England Patriots: Just because it’s obvious, doesn’t make it any less true. He only has one game without a touchdown. I just don’t see him having a second against the 49ers who rank 32nd in run defense. I’m expecting a big day from him.
RB’s I say Nay to Week 11:
Giovani Bernard, Cincinnati Bengals: Jeremy Hill has reemerged as the main back in Cincinnati. The Bye week cut off Bernard’s streak of games with at least 50 total yards. He hasn’t been getting as much work through the air as was expected of him as of late. I don’t think you’re starting him even in PPR formats.
Terrance West, Baltimore Ravens: He hasn’t looked right since Week 7, along with that Kenneth Dixon has gotten an increase in his snap count since then. West is going to have his work cut out for him against the Cowboys who have only allowed 1 running back to have more than 80 yards this season. If West doesn’t pull it together soon this could turn into a running back by committee or Kenneth Dixon’s backfield.
Lamar Miller, Houston Texans: He has a nice matchup against the Raiders but as I spoke about before the altitude in El Azteca is nothing to take lightly. The stadium with the highest altitude in the NFL is Sports Authority Field at Mile High. The altitude for that stadium is only 5,280 feet, that is over 2,000 feet less than el Azteca. The altitude is inexplicable until you have been there. I have been to one game in that stadium and even as a fan it takes a lot of out of you. I think that this stadium will wear out Lamar Miller especially with his heavy workload in that Houston backfield.
