NFL Power Rankings

So why is Prince the image I decided to go with for my NFL Power Rankings this week?

Well first of all, Prince is an amazing artist! I regret not watching his last show in Oakland about a month before he passed away. Secondly, Prince was from Minnesota and loved the color purple. That happens to be true of the Vikings! The defense is reminiscent of the old Vikings teams of the 70s or otherwise known as the Purple People Eaters. Unfortunately the Vikings never won a Super Bowl in the Bud Grant era and still are without a Lombardi trophy. They have had a few championship calibre teams during the last 20 years but those teams were more about offense than defense. The current Vikings team definitely sports a championship defense and after having a week to rest, they get to see what damage they can inflict on the Eagles, the former #1 team based on the GE model. My guess is that the Eagles will continue to regress towards the mean after a very hot start and the Vikings will continue to prove why they belong in the NFL elite. Head coach Mike Zimmer has done an amazing job of turning around the Vikings even without Adrian Peterson and Teddy Bridgewater. The identity of the team has clearly shifted and with a new home, the Vikings are reborn. Minnesota is a state that loves its football so I am sure they are in heaven (along with Prince!).

Now, here are the rankings for offense and defense. Of course Minnesota's D is the best in the league. No question there. Atlanta's offense took a slight hit but is still #1. They showed us a lot by winning in Denver against a tough D and almost winning in Seattle against another very tough D. Both are incredibly hard places to win at so the Falcons are definitely showing some grit. They are at home against San Diego so I expect the Falcons offense to soar!

Don't get me started about the 49ers. My goodness! At least they play a team worst than them according to the GE model and the 49ers are at home. That game and the Jets might be the only two other wins the 49ers will get all year. This season is a dumpster fire for sure for the 49ers. Too bad and I still hate Jed York!
